Rowing, Rocking and Rolling on the Rivers
River recreation ramps up in September with activities that celebrate West Virginia’s waterways. Gauley Season is set to begin Sept. 7 and will run through October. During this time, officials draw down Summersville Lake making rafting on the Gauley a wild, wonderful adventure. A variety of outfitters, most approximately an hour’s drive from Charleston, offer Gauley trips.
The Kanawha Falls Festival is one of the area’s newest and most exciting events, featuring whitewater and freestyle kayak competitions and a photography contest. The festival is scheduled for Sept. 13 and takes place at Kanawha Falls, a 45-minute drive from #CWV. The Capital City Challenge Triathlon – Row, Run, Ride, consists of a 4.2-mile run, a 4.2-mile row, and a 16.8-mile bike ride all along the banks of the Kanawha River. Row, Run, Ride takes place Saturday, Sept. 15.
