Welcome 2019 in Hip, Historic…Almost Heaven

The gifts are unwrapped, and it’s time to make plans for NYE! Charleston offers a variety of ways to welcome the New Year – from family friendly festivities to adults-only fun.

Celebrate the beginning of the New Year – and don’t miss bedtime! The Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences celebrates 2019 from 11 am to 1 pm, Dec 31 with an epic dance party, apple juice toast and countdown to the stroke of noon. Admission to Noon Year’s Eve is free with museum admission ($9 for adults and $7.50 for children). Kids two and under get in free.

Charleston’s GoodNight celebration is family friendly and free. Enjoy performances by local chorus groups, bands, ballet ensembles, the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra and the West Virginia Youth Symphony, along with individual and ensemble artists at venues throughout the city. Make the rounds on the KRT free shuttle, which will run on a continuous loop between performance venues and the city garage at the corner of Virginia and Laidley Streets from 6 to 10 pm.

New Year’s Eve is the final chance to tour this year’s Coonskin Holiday Lights display. This drive-thru display gets more elaborate each year – to the delight of children of all ages. Monetary donations are accepted in lieu of admission fees.

Adults can ring in the New Year at Mardi Gras Casino & Resort, which starts its celebration at noon on Dec 31. Festivities include an “early bird” champagne toast, drawings for Casino Cash, cruises and $2,019 in cash, and live music from “The Zoo” in Louie’s Lounge (with cover charge starting at $20). Enjoy the party to the fullest by booking a room at the resort for the full luxury experience!

Holiday Inn Charleston West invites you to ring in 2019 with dinner, live music and a little soothsaying. Psychic Ann Reynolds looks at what 2019 has in store while Toothless Ruth rocks the house. A cash bar and dinner buffet begin at 7 pm. The band kicks off at 9 pm. Singles and couples packages available with or without overnight accommodations. Call Eva at 304-744-4641 for reservations.

Reservations are filling quickly for the Embassy Suites NYE package that includes complimentary beverages, dinner buffet with dessert station, midnight champagne toast and New Year’s Day breakfast. DJ Nick Scott rocks the ballroom from 9 pm to 12:30 am in one of Charleston’s most anticipated NYE’s celebrations. Call 304-352-6440 to make reservations.

No matter how you spend NYE, we at the Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau wish you a safe and happy 2019, and we hope to see you soon in our Hip, Historic…Almost Heaven home.
