Mountain State Distillery is helping fight COVID-19. This small distillery in downtown Charleston is making hand sanitizer. Owner Jeff Arthur told WOWK-TV “there’s a lot of medical folks, nursing homes, the post office, the city, the first responders, those folks have a desperate need for it.” Read more about Mountain State Distillery’s efforts.

The Maker’s Center on Charleston’s West Side is using a 3D printer to create face shields for area doctors and nurses and pressure relief straps for those with cloth masks. Get the full story here.

Trivillian’s, a restaurant well known for its hot dogs and old-time soda fountain atmosphere, also is a compounding pharmacy. This Kanawha City establishment can manufacture hand sanitizer for healthcare workers, businesses and the public. Read the Charleston Gazette-Mail article.

On the other end of the production scale, Dow’s Union Carbide subsidiary in South Charleston is producing industrial scale quantities of hand sanitizer. Door-to-door Girl Scout cookie sales certainly took a hit this year. Ever resourceful, the Black Diamond Girl Scout Council is helping girls sell cookies and bring these sweet treats to local nonprofits, health professionals and first responders.
