Spotlight on Recreation: Holiday Parades
Light up the night at the 20th annual Dunbar Christmas Parade Friday, Dec. 1. The parade starts at 7 p.m. and is followed by a tree lighting ceremony, Santa, carolers, and hot chocolate.
The Charleston Christmas Parade steps off at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2. Expect music, fun, and, of course, Santa! At 2 p.m. Dec. 2, St. Albans holds its annual Christmas Parade. That same evening, the area's boating community joins in the holiday fun with the nautical-themed Lou Wendell Lighted Boat Parade on the Kanawha River. This parade sets sail at 7 p.m. in St. Albans.
South Charleston’s annual Christmas Parade begins at noon Saturday, Dec. 9. Paradegoers will look to the sky as Santa arrives via helicopter. The City of Nitro hosts its Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Saturday, Dec. 9 starting at 4 p.m. Immediately following the parade, officials will light the city’s Christmas tree, and free pictures with Santa and cocoa will be available. Charleston’s annual Lighted Boat Parade gets underway from Patrick Street at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 and sails to the State Capitol before returning downriver.
