Mary Richardson, executive director of International Pageants, Inc., today announced the company’s decision to move its annual final competitions to Charleston, W.Va. from Jacksonville, Fla., signing a three-year contract for the period of July 2017 through July 2020, with the Marriott Town Center as the official hotel partner and both the Culture Center and Clay Center as the venues for its three pageant events.

“Charleston is honored to host such a prestigious competition,” said Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau President, Alisa Bailey.  “A lot of our partners stepped up to the plate in order to lure this competition to saour city and those same partners are committed to making the International Pageants experience in Charleston stellar.”

The three-year deal, which was facilitated by leadership from the Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau and the city of Charleston, will bring nearly 150 international beauty queens to the area for a two-week period running late July through early August, generating a positive multimillion-dollar revenue impact on local businesses.

“We’re excited to call Charleston our new home and looking forward to working with area businesses and the community at large to create a relationship that is a win for all of us,” said Mary Richardson, who purchased the International Pageant system in 1999, along with her husband, Mel Richardson.  “We looked at several destinations and Charleston has everything we’re looking for – beautiful summer weather, great attractions, a vibrant downtown, the ideal hotel and theater combination, and hospitality that no other destination could match.”

The search to move the competitions from Jacksonville began in May 2015 and Charleston was the top contender among several bidding cities across the nation.  International Pageants, Inc. features three competitions comprising of the Mrs. International, Miss International and Miss Teen International titles.  The two weeks of competition include appearances, volunteer activities and other events hosted by the contestants and area businesses, in addition to the preliminary and final nights of competition.
