Charleston’s first-ever Celtic festival, the Celtic Calling, kicks off March 4 and I, for one, am so looking forward to it.  Not just because I’m the head of the Convention & Visitors Bureau and we are sponsoring many of the activities; not because it coincides with the Mountain East Conference, thus giving our basketball fans lots to do when not at the Coliseum; not because I’ve got Irish blood coursing through my veins from both sides of my family; but the Celtic Calling gives us time to show off the fun and cultural celebrations Charleston is famous for during the winter time!

Growing up in West Virginia, I had been told by my grandmother that we were Scots-Irish. Not at all sure what that meant, I could tell you about my English roots, my German low-land roots. Finally as an adult, I began to read about the Scottish outcasts who were re-planted in Ireland for about a century, eventually moving on, looking for home.
