Tidewater, a 30 Year Tradition

26Jan 2016

As one of Charleston’s longest standing restaurants, Tidewater continues to serve quality food people can’t resist. Thanks to Chef, Jack Neophyto, the restaurant’s culinary excellence comes with a heaping helping of love that stems from his upbringing and the city he calls home.

Jack is a Charleston, WV native with a rich Greek background who has a serious passion for cooking. His biggest inspiration is his father, who taught him everything from day one, “He had taught me a lot of tricks and trades when I was younger. I envy him. He’s the best thing that has ever happened to me. He taught me everything.” With his father’s guidance and a love for Charleston, Jack remains loyal to his regulars and welcomes visiting foodies to indulge in their seafood filled menu.

Tidewater’s specialty is seafood, bringing a wide variety of fresh and unique dishes to the table. One of the restaurants best-selling items is the Jerk Shrimp. This special dish is a peel-and-eat shrimp served chilled with seasoning and a side of jerk sauce. It’s finger licking good, and can’t be found anywhere else in Charleston.

With high praises and comments like “you have better seafood than they do in Charleston, South Carolina”, the chef and Charleston could not be happier to have this gastronomic paradise. To live up to these words and provide the highest quality fish, Tidewater receives their shipments every three to four days from Foley’s Fish out of Boston.

If you are not a lover of ocean dwellers, Chef Jack recommends their sautéed chicken Fettuccine St. Tropez (only place that serves it in town) or their simple yet delicious rib-eye steak, seasoned with salt and pepper, a cabernet-demi glaze, topped with skinny fries and a garnish of parsley. Also, the doughy poppy seed rolls are the talk about town.

Feel free to make a reservation or walk in, as Tidewater welcomes diners to dress up or dress down and enjoy their meals in warm lighting at a cozy booth. Outside seating is also available during the warmer months.
