Come Out and Play in The Street 14Jun 2016 By: Vasilia Scouras Associate Producer Mountain Stage Radio Show It's that time of year when we're all allowed to play in the street! The Art Parade has been the creative kickoff to the first Saturday of FestivALL for the last 6 years! We invite you to join us as we celebrate the strong spirit of art, creativity and community in the Kanawha Valley. Pick a spot on Capitol Street between Kanawha Boulevard and Capitol Market that is perfect for your family and let the FestivALL Princess (Jude Binder) set the stage for all who follow in her path. Enjoy the traditional sounds and energy of a mobile string band jam, the whirls of colorful belly dancers and prepare to meet your favorite super heroes and princess as they parade their way to the Capitol Market. Alban Arts Center's Alban Arts Academy will be celebrating FestivALL in some of their favorite costumes from shows past and the cast of The Wiz will make Capitol Street their stage. The Art Parade is always full of surprises, even to us! The intent of the Art Parade is to give local individuals and groups an opportunity to openly show their creative side in a safe and fun environment. Participants may show off their artistic talents with movable sculptures or flags or simply dress the part of their rarely seen wild and imaginative alter ego. Dress up your family in your favorite costumes, grab a coffee or a smoothie from one of the local shops and enjoy this street spectacle. The West Virginia Division of Ghostbusters will be on hand to protect us, snap selfies and show off their proton packs at the Capitol Market after the parade so be sure to bring the family and grab a bite to eat from one of the market's vendors. We look forward to seeing you at 10:00am on Saturday, June 18th!
